As a result of the new department of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) expanding the scope of criteria, five long term drinking water advisories have been added in MBQ. I applaud the tireless advocacy of Chief Maracle and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte for improving their water system, and I’m pleased to see our government taking steps to address it. Expanding the criteria will ensure that more attention is given to these needs.
I am also pleased to see that recently MBQ received approval for an application to the ISC’s Lands and Economic Development Services Program to undertake an Intake Protection Zone Study in the amount of $102,190. The proposed study provides the foundation to develop a water source protection plan as part of the multi-barrier approach to protect drinking water supplies from source to tap.
