The 150th anniversary of Confederation is a time to celebrate the places across this great country that unite and connect us in our communities.
Mike Bossio, Member of Parliament for Hastings—Lennox and Addington on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, today celebrated the grand opening of the recently Renovated Lakeview Park Playground in Amherstview.
Loyalist Township received $50,000 for renovations for the Lakeview Park Playground through the Canada 150 Infrastructure Fund. This project is one of over 730 Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) projects approved in southern Ontario under the program’s two intakes. Total funding of up to $88.8 million is being delivered across the region by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
These projects will allow Canadians to enjoy upgraded community facilities such as parks, trails, cultural and community centres. They will also help to create a lasting legacy as Canada celebrates the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.
“This investment for Canada’s 150th birthday will provide a lasting legacy of the celebration in Loyalist Township that will be enjoyed every time a family comes to the playground, and will support the attraction and retention of young families. Through our community investments, we are demonstrating our commitment to create and support sustainable growth, economic opportunity, and prosperity in rural Canada.”
- Mike Bossio, Member of Parliament, Hastings—Lennox & Addington
“Loyalist Township is very pleased to see this level of partnership and to have received funding for this playground reconstruction. With this funding, the playground and accessibility improvements could take place much sooner than planned. This playground will be a legacy to our community and serve our residents and their recreational needs. This project is a great example of how different levels of government can work together to create partnerships that benefit the community as a whole.”
- Mayor Bill Lowry, Mayor of Loyalist Township
