Mike Bossio, the Member of Parliament for Hastings—Lennox & Addington was pleased to attend the 2018 Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference, which is taking place at the Sheraton Centre Hotel from January 21st to 23rd in Toronto.
The annual conference brings together rural municipal representatives from across the province, as well as industry professionals to discuss the issues affecting rural Canadians. Bossio was pleased to attend the conference as a rural federal member of parliament, and to reiterate the federal government’s support for rural municipalities.
“I really enjoy attending the annual ROMA conference,” said Bossio. “Our municipal leaders have their finger on the pulse of their communities, and having the opportunity to engage with them here at ROMA is invaluable to me in my role as a federal member of parliament. By working in partnership with municipal leaders, we can begin to identify solutions to the issues that affect Canadians who live in rural and remote areas.”
At the conference Bossio also had the opportunity to attend a number of informative panels, on topics including waste management, and on protecting water and wastewater infrastructure. Other issues discussed at the conference included addressing the challenges associated with rural broadband internet, the role of oil and natural gas in the economy, and food insecurity in rural areas.
